This week I brought a notice of motion to the Clare County Council meeting to clarify the distribution of funding for Ennis recreation areas.
I have asked that a report is issued to explain the use of approximately €50,000 in funding allocated to improve the recreational amenities at The Rocky Road and at Ballyalla Lake by the former Ennis Town Council in May 2014. As far as I can see, the funding has not been utilised to provide higher quality recreational areas for the Ennis residents.
I have been the Chairman of the Ballyalla Lake Blue Flag Working Group since 2013 which has been named the community volunteer group for the Lake area for the purposes of achieving the green flag award. This group has been recognised for driving the improvements of the lake’s facilities since it was formed.
The development of the 7km Ballyalla Lough looped walk, construction of a playground restoration of Lifeguard duties and the construction of public toilets could transform Ballyalla Lake into a top class amenity for Ennis. The ideas submitted to the Clare County Council by the Blue Flag Working Group included all of these suggestions, but funding for these types of projects have not been made available.
